Colorado offers a winter wonderland that can be enjoyed by all. With an impressive array of activities and nightlife, you and your family will be entertained constantly during your trip! When we say winter wonderland, we mean wonderful! We have something for everyone and lots of cool events. From snowshoeing, cross country skiing, snowmobile rides, ice skating, sleigh rides, and more! Durango hosts an annual winter festival called Snowdown with ice sculptures, fabulous folleys (reserve early), downhill racing of all sorts, a parade, snow kayaking, river plunge, horse drawn ski races, various saloons and restaurant specials! The ultimate Colorado vacation awaits you!
Durango Mountain Resort, formerly known as Purgatory, is one of Durango's local ski areas. It is located approximately 25 miles north of town. Purgatory offers lots of great terrain for skiers, snowboarders and winter enthusiasts. It has a vertical rise of 2029 fun filled feet with ten great lifts including one high speed quad and one high speed 6 man chairlift. One of the best ski resorts in Colorado for your ski vacation, The resort offers many rental condos, restaurants shops and of course, ski rentals.
If you're a backcountry person, leave the ski area behind and explore the stunning backcountry. Take a totally enclosed, heated snowcat ride to some of the most breathtaking places you'll ever see. Snowcats run in all types of weather so if it's stormy out, you'll still be able to enjoy the fresh powder. Spend your day carving through challenging old growth forest and gladed bowls and it will be a day you'll never forget!
Durango Colorado offers some spectacular snowmobiling. The San Juan mountains are the place to be when it comes to riding through fresh powder on a snowmobile. Experience Durango's winter wonderland, where the air is so thin, you can see your breath and the country is so beautiful, it will remain forever a memory and you will want to return many times for the ultimate Colorado vacation! The Durango area offers western, archeological, historic and Native American vacation experiences.
