Lightner Creek Campground is a family fun camping destination in Durango, Colorado, just minutes from downtown shopping. The campground is open seasonally, from May 1st to September 1st, and is nestled away from all highway noise. Featuring a beautiful scenic mountain setting, this campground is a getaway for thousands of families each season. Visitors are warmly welcomed to Lightner Creek Campground.
The amenities offered at Lightner Creek Campground include: clean restrooms with hot showers, group camping area with pavilion, game room, heated swimming pool and more. Stream fishing at Lightner Creek is great for catching your own dinner. We can accommodate everyone from tenters to the largest 5th wheel or motor home. Let's not forget the children's playground and basketball court, public pay phones, shared BBQ grills, ice and propane.
This family campground has a quiet, peaceful location, consisting of 30 beautiful acres in a mountain setting...complete with a clear mountain stream. The owners and operators, Joe and Cheryl Amorelli, spent two years touring 48 states with their truck and trailer. After their journey they came to acknowledge what campers appreciate: no highway noise, just a quiet and secure setting with a great scenic view. Approximately 1/3 of the campsites are located under the shade along Lightner Creek. These sites make for special camping experiences and they are very popular. Book your reservations early.
Lightner Creek Campground is great for your stay in the Four Corners area and just minutes from the Durango & Silverton Railroad depots. The Animas River offers guided river rafting trips for the entire family and there are stables in the area that will take you to the local mountains for horseback trail rides. Mesa Verde National Park is only 30 miles from our campground and is a beautiful place to visit. Being centrally located from all of these attractions, it is no wonder Durango is a destination-vacation.

Durango Mountain Resort, formerly known as Purgatory, is one of Durango's local ski areas. It is located approximately 25 miles north of town. Purgatory offers lots of great terrain for skiers, snowboarders and winter enthusiasts. It has a vertical rise of 2029 fun filled feet with ten great lifts including one high speed quad and one high speed 6 man chairlift. One of the best ski resorts in Colorado for your ski vacation, The resort offers many rental condos, restaurants shops and of course, ski rentals.
If you're a backcountry person, leave the ski area behind and explore the stunning backcountry. Take a totally enclosed, heated snowcat ride to some of the most breathtaking places you'll ever see. Snowcats run in all types of weather so if it's stormy out, you'll still be able to enjoy the fresh powder. Spend your day carving through challenging old growth forest and gladed bowls and it will be a day you'll never forget!
